Right on the southern edge of the greater North Tacoma neighborhood sits the liberal arts college, University of Puget Sound. Local Tacomans call it “UPS” while most of the students of the school call it “Puget Sound”. Since we’re locals, we call the campus and surrounding micro-neighborhood, UPS (not to be confused with the shipping company!).
The campus is set between the Proctor district, 6th Avenue, and Three Bridges providing easy access to the best local places the North End has to offer.
The maple lined streets of UPS are home to many craftsmen and traditional “College Park” brick and Tudor houses. Lovely greenspaces dot the landscape creating a serene, yet charming environment. UPS is a family-friendly neighborhood with proximity to schools, daycare centers and highly rated preschool centers.
Things To Do in the University of Puget Sound Neighborhood
Due to its proximity to 6th Avenue and Proctor, residents and visitors in the UPS area can easily access coffee shops, stores and restaurants located in these two popular areas. The city has made bike and walking paths a priority in this area and so biking, as well as are popular means of transportation and recreation.
Being situated right next to the University also offers a multitude of perks that to take advantage of as well. The grounds and facilities of the UPS campus are open to the public so it's a wonderful place to go for a stroll, get a cup of coffee or slice of pizza, or even pop into community events hosted on the campus such as sports games, speakers, and concerts.
